Get to Know Me

Hola, ¿cómo estás? Krista soy yo. I am Krista.

Since I started my blog in 2019 (previously called Sweet Simplicity), I have written cultural commentary and media reviews concerning books, movies, music, food, and anything my heart desires. My work is both serious and lighthearted. I write for pleasure, pride, and the joy of sharing information on the worldwide web. All of my posts reflect my personality and interests. And although my worldviews have evolved over the years, I enjoy seeing how my writing skills have advanced.

Fun Questions for Me

How did you come up with your blog name? Krista Soy Yo means “I am Krista” or “this is Krista” in Spanish. It was inspired by a telenovela titled La Reina Soy Yo. I thought the title was so rhythmic. Better than “Yo Soy La Reina” or “Soy La Reina.” Back when I had an Instagram account, my panhandle was kristasoyyo, and that username still speaks to me today. You can’t find me on there any longer, but todavía, Krista soy yo. I’m still Krista. I want people to learn about me through my blog rather than through IG. And I changed my blog’s name from Sweet Simplicity to Krista Soy Yo, just simply because I’ve matured since I started it.

Describe yourself in one word. Eccentric

What’s your star sign? Capricorn (although don’t take this as an invite to assign me personality traits, LOL)

What is your personality type? On the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, I am an INTJ, which stands for introverted (I), intuitive (N), thinking (T), and judging (J). In other words, I’m imaginative. I examine how the world is interconnected (the N), I make decisions by comparing benefits with drawbacks (the T), and I prefer having structured, organized plans (the J). It is the rarest personality type among women and the 3rd-4th rarest overall.

I am also an Enneagram Type 4, which means that I’m an individualist. What does that mean? I see myself as different from others, but I also seek to find solace in my own purpose. I’m emotive, imaginative, and expressive, yet I’ve also felt misunderstood and have been prone to toxic cycles of self-comparison.

All of what I said might sound intimidating, but please don’t be intimidated by me. Even with my MBTI and Enneagram types, I enjoy making connections in casual environments! Just approach me and spark a conversation. I’ll be responsive! 😀

What is your love language? Quality time

What is something you wish you could do? Travel all the time. Gosh, if I were a millionaire I’d be doing just that right now. I’d make spontaneous plans to take long international vacations and live it up all the way! That doesn’t mean I’d always fly first class or stay at 5-star hotels—I’d only do that occasionally. Instead, my focus would be on having a series of grounded, authentic, and multifaceted cultural experiences. I have dreams of trying street food in Taiwan, kayaking in New Zealand, walking the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, trying Indian food in India, seeing the baobab trees in Madagascar, stargazing in Chile’s Atacama Desert, and the list goes on.

What tree would you be if you existed as one? A cherry blossom. Cherry blossoms represent the cycle of life: the blossoming (growing), the wilting (adversity), and the re-blossoming. There are times when I’m a work-in-progress, but my actions always lead to my blooming. So if I were a tree, I’d most definitely be a cherry blossom.

What is your favorite food? I tend to answer “gummies” or “rolls” to this question for some reason. Though if I were to be absolutely honest, I’d say boba. I know—boba tea is a drink rather than a food, but I’m a huge fan of it. I used to dislike tea in general, but then I decided to try boba tea one day and haven’t been the same since.

My first ever boba tea was this Kumquat Mojito, which I drank on April 3, 2022. It changed me FOREVER.

What is your favorite candy? Gummies for sure.

Any hot take? “Sweet Caroline” is a cheesy song, and I don’t get why people sing to it like they love it so much.

What song(s) would you recommend for driving on an interstate highway? “like JENNIE” by Jennie and “Girl’s Girl” by Zara Larsson go SO HARD on the interstate, especially while riding in the hammer lane. I can also say the same thing for “Mr. Saxobeat” by Alexandra Stan and “DDU-DU-DDU-DU” by BLACKPINK.

What’s on your bucket list during this life? To visit all 7 continents on Earth, including Antarctica. When I get to Antarctica, I’m going to do a 5-second polar plunge to feel accomplished. Excluding North America, I’ve only set foot in Europe (to visit Spain, the only country I’ve visited in my life so far). But with the list of countries and territories I want to visit (over 100 of them), I’ll accomplish that for sure. I’ll update this answer as I travel more, I promise.

City or countryside? I’m from a rural area and have a great affinity to natural landscapes. Though when I went to Madrid for 4 weeks, I loved being able to just get out of my room and walk or ride the metro to any building. I’d vote city just because of that + I’d like to live in one or be close to one throughout my adult life.

What are other hobbies you enjoy besides writing? Studying Spanish, playing Mario Kart Wii with headphones on, watching TV/movies, reading books or articles, listening to podcasts, plane-spotting, journaling, a bit of meditation (especially savāsana), and photography. I also like to practice applying on makeup when I feel like it, and I’m interested in learning how to cross-stitch too.

Welcome to my safe haven! Enjoy your stay and my body of work!
