My mother loves watching British shows. She has voiced her desire to go to the UK and explore the villages the shows take place at. They look really nice from the pictures, but let’s move up.
The United Kingdom consists of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The UK is recognized as one country. However, it is not a monolith and there is more than just the city of London and the royal family. Although, it is the home country of some legendary artists and writers (think Elton John and J.K. Rowling). Some of the most iconic hits were produced in the U.K. Keep in mind that Great Britain refers to the island that contains England, Scotland, and Wales, which excludes Northern Ireland. Great Britain and Northern Ireland make up the United Kingdom. And no, Ireland is not part of the U.K. It is a separate country on its own.
That was a good geography lesson, but let’s talk about the snacks now, shall we?

The Snacks
Grandma Wild’s Toffee Flapjacks: Okay then. This snack is kind of interesting. It reminds me of a breakfast bar. In fact, it tastes more like a breakfast bar than any kind of toffee to me. Although this is like a toffee flapjack. I can definitely taste the syrup flavor. However, I’m not really excited about it. It’s not awful, but I’ll take regular pancakes before this any day. Despite that, I’ll give it a fair rating for the low-key addicting flavor. 3.4/5

Bristow’s Sherbet Lemons: Hmm. This reminds me of the American lemon candies. It could appear as a cough drop to some people. It’s not a bad lemon flavor. It tastes like your typical lemon flavored candy. I shouldn’t be too hard on it, because it’s not like there’s much to a lemon flavored candy in general. I don’t eat lemon candies often, but I’ll give it a fair rating for being better than the bland caramels I’ve tried. 3.3/5

Mackies Honey & Mustard Potato Chips: Ooh, look! I got Scottish potato chips! I don’t normally see honey mustard potato chips where I am. At least not highly advertised. The mustard flavor is strong. You could taste it from the first bite. The texture of the chips could be better. I don’t think I like these chips as much as the others. However, these are passable and I would eat them if someone gave me a bag for free. 3.5/5

Bristow’s Bucks Fizz Chews: This candy is actually good! I really like orange flavored candy. This tastes like orange creme to me. I don’t normally eat orange creme candy or orange creme flavored things in general, but this is good to me. And that’s being honest. 3.7/5

Johnny’s Pickled Onion Rings: Oh lord. The vinegar flavor is STRONG with this one. Reminiscent of the vinegar chips from France, these are supposed to be like something out of a jar. I would probably like these if the flavor wasn’t so strong or if there was some savory spice. The texture is good, but I think the flavor is worse than the French vinegar chips. Too strong so me, so you know it gets a no. 2.25/5

Dean’s Shortbread Rounds: Here comes more shortbread cookies. Though to be honest, these are probably the best shortbread cookies I’ve eaten throughout this entire cultural snacks journey. The texture is really good, the flavor is really good, and it’s a really satisfying snack without being too heavy. I see that they’re Scottish shortbread cookies. These get a stamp of approval from me. You know I would eat them again! 4.3/5

Yummy Banana Toffee: The banana flavor is present here. I like it enough. This is different from the Toffee Flapjack in that this is truly sticky toffee. Speaking of sticky, it certainly sticks to my teeth. I couldn’t eat more of this. Sucking on it doesn’t make the experience any better, and pulling a piece away from the others is really hard. Would I care for it if it was less sticky? Possibly. But I think I’ll have to pass on this “yum”. 2.5/5

Welsh Potato Crisps Lamb and Mint: These chips are really from Wales. That excites me, because I would love to visit Wales one day. Seeing that they contain lamb and mint flavors, I’m thinking to myself, “Oh lord.” I don’t care for mint flavor snacks, so I don’t have high expectations for these chips. Nevertheless, this is actually better than I thought it would be. I thought the mint flavor would be intense like those mint flavored candies. However, these taste like regular chips in terms of texture. They’re not bland, but they don’t satisfy my flavor pang either. 3.5/5

Final verdict: In all honesty, the UK box was quite vanilla. As always, it was interesting to try the snacks. However, the box doesn’t rank as high as the Brazilian, Filipino, or Scandinavian boxes. Strangely, it ranks higher than the Polish and French boxes. The shortbread cookies were the highlight for sure. The fizz chews were also remarkable. But the pickled onion rings were too strong (nothing like Funyuns) and that toffee was extremely sticky. It was more sticky than a piece of Mary Jane candy, and that’s saying something.
I have actually gone through six months of subscription boxes, so the series is really supposed to close here. But guess what? The good news is that I have ONE more box that I will receive due to paying for it separately. And I am super excited about it. I already know what the next country will be, and I can’t wait to try their snacks. I can’t tell you what that country is, but I’ll tell you what. You’ll find out soon enough if you stick around. So stick around and get hype!
Overall Rating: 3.31/5
