My Thoughts on This Month’s Universal Yums Box

It’s a new month, and with a new month comes a new box. I already knew based on last month’s clue that this month’s box would be coming from France. And lo and behold, I was right! A booklet and card on France was in the box. I loved the way they looked, and I couldn’t wait to try the French snacks! Let’s get into my takes on them!

The Snacks

Bret’s Au Fromage du Jura: These taste similar to regular potato chips to me. It’s like a variation of the Ruffles chips, but the flavor is a different kind of cheese. These are floral cheese flavored potato chips. I like how the cheese flavor isn’t overpowering. It has a nice balance of the cheese flavor and potatoes. While these chips are pretty typical, I still like them, especially due to the flavor. 4/5

Truffles Bar by Mathez: Oh my goodness. This truffle is really good. Seeing that they were cocoa dusted, I thought the truffles were going to be overpowering. But no. These are a great balance of sweetness, richness, and decadence. I like how soft the truffles are. I would totally eat them again. 4.7/5

Raspberry Mini Roll: The look of the roll is similar to a fig bar or a NutriGrain Bar. Nevertheless, I don’t care for it. I don’t dislike it, but I don’t enjoy it either. I said in my Polish snacks article that I’m not a fan of fruit fillings. Those who like fruit fillings will probably enjoy it. For me, I’m gonna have to roll it on to someone else. 3/5

Les Sables de La Mére Poulard: The booklet states that they are made of sand (but not the beach kind of sand). No wonder why these taste so plain. There’s some sweetness in the end, but overall, not appealing to me. There are better shortbread cookies out there. Even the Girl Scout shortbreads (Trefoils) taste better. 2.5/5

Sibell Chips Saveur Vinaigre: These chips are pretty intense on vinegar. I think that it’s too overpowering. Your breath would smell after eating some of them. Maybe if the vinegar was toned down a bit, it would be better. Pass. 2.25/5

Sibell Tube a Grignoter Fromage: It’s reminiscent of a bugle. The presentation is nice, but the overall snack leaves a lot to be desired. I like the texture, but the flavor isn’t as appetizing as a bugle. Nothing about the snack gives me a kick of pleasure. 2.5/5

Têtes Brûlées: This tastes like sour candy, because it is sour candy. The sour filling is smooth, but I don’t taste much of any sweetness. This snack is pretty weird to say the least. I managed to get through the piece, but would I get it again? No. 2.4/5

Caramels con Fleur de Sel: This caramel is pretty hard to eat. It’s pretty mild in flavor. I don’t eat much caramel at all, so I’m not an avid fan of it. That said, it is better than the Polish caramel I had last month. Even so, it’s not as good as a Werther’s Original caramel. 2.75/5

Final Verdict: Well, the French snacks box was not like I thought it would be. I was expecting more pastries or something like that, but there were more chip snacks than I expected. This box actually ranks lower than the Polish snacks box. I’m surprised. I enjoyed trying this box, but it didn’t live up to my expectations.

I’m excited for what next month’s country will be. I’m not sure what it will be as of now, and I think I will wait until the box comes to find out. Until then, stick around. More articles will be coming soon!
