I told you in my previous article that I would get a box from another company, and it finally came! It’s a box from a company called Universal Yums. This article is coming really late, and I apologize. I already have another box to try, but before that, I have to publish this article to share it with the world. Here’s my take on Universal Yums.
What is Universal Yums? Universal Yums is a subscription box company that deals with snacks from different countries. Each month, there are snacks that come from a particular country. On the website, there are subscription boxes of various prices. I have the 6-snack pack, but there is also the 12-snack pack and the 20-snack pack available for purchase (though those cost more). Feel free to click on the link at the bottom of the article to learn more about what the company is about.
First Impressions: Seeing it in mail, the box was pretty small. I was excited, but I wondered how much could really be in there. I did see the sticker on the box (picture shown above), which seemed to get a hint on what January’s country would be. I thought it was just for decoration, but then I noticed that it was a hint, and I wondered what country it would be. I was thinking that it could be a country like England, Scotland, Wales, possibly Ireland. I even thought that Japan could be in there (a long shot, but yes. Japan does have castles.) However, when I opened the box, it was Poland. (Spoiler: Had I stayed with the other company, that was going to be the next box.) I loved seeing the snacks and I loved the fact that there was an information book filled with facts, alongside a card. Seeing the box on the whole, I thought it was already more appealing that the Treats box. You can see how the booklet and card look in the photos below. Though after that, it’s time to read my thoughts on the Polish treats.

The Snacks:
Monster Munch Original: Based on what I read in the booklet, Monster Munch is a really popular snack in Poland. It’s a potato chip crisp, quite like the ones eaten in my home country, America. I like it. As I eat on, it makes me want to have more. The flavor is low-key addictive, and the texture of the chip adds on to the satisfying snack. If I lived in Poland, I’d eat this more often. Then again, potatoes are a staple in Poland, with over 250 pounds of them consumed by Poles on average each year. Imagine how much that is. Weighing that amount, it’s heavier than me and heavier than a baby elephant. I would probably get tired of potatoes before reaching that mark though. 3.7/5

Tago Delice Meringues: I loved the smell of the chocolate flavor as I opened the package. It made me more excited to eat one of them. The chocolate taste reminds me of what a chocolate from a Valentine’s box would taste like. That’s not a bad thing. It’s an interesting cookie from the outside. The chocolate is actually satisfying as you eat on. My mom pointed out that 5 of these cookies contain 130 calories and 270 calories for the whole container (that’s according to the box). The cookie is really light, but now that I think about it, it’s good. I enjoy the chocolate flavor, and I’d eat them again. 4/5

Beskidzkie Paluscki: The package contains pretzels sticks much like American pretzel sticks, but they contain poppy seeds. To be honest, the poppy seeds don’t add anything to the flavor. The pretzel stick itself is fine, and it’s nice that it’s not too hard to bite on like some pretzels. It still contains that crisp crunch that you get while eating certain snacks. I might would get them if there were no other options and I had a craving for pretzel sticks. Though for the most part, they taste like your average pretzel sticks. 3.5/5

Wedel Ptasie Mleczko: First eating this, it had a flavor that I couldn’t get my finger around. I thought it was sour, but it really doesn’t qualify as sour. I ate it again the next day and there wasn’t so much of a sour flavor, but then again, who knows what was going on with my tongue? In both times, nothing about the snack tickled me fancy. 3/5

Dr. Gerard Apricot Mini Cake: An apricot mini cake? Hmm. I’ve never had one before. Never really thought that something like that existed. Tasting it for the first time, I could tell there was some flavor. Maybe it was the apricot? I’m not sure. The apricot filling was okay, but it didn’t give me a kick of pleasure. The cream was overpowering too. The final bite actually wasn’t bad, and it actually had a pleasant aftertaste. It was fine, but nevertheless, the taste was nothing special. 3/5

Czekoladowa Mieszanka Imieninowa: It’s a chocolate candy with a berry filling. The berry filling tastes like some type of fruit candy. It’s not bad, but it’s not berry good either. Then again, I’m not a fan of fruit fillings in much of anything. Others may like it though. 3/5

Krowka Wypasiona Mleczna: It looks like a piece of caramel. While it’s called cream fudge, it technically is caramel. To be honest, this is my least favorite of all the “Yums” I’ve tried in this box. It said in the book to take small bites and savor the cream fudge, but I really don’t like the flavor of it. I don’t care for the texture of it either. I wouldn’t eat one again. I don’t hate it, but this candy still gets a solid no from me. 2/5

Final Verdict: I know the ratings of the snacks themselves aren’t that high, but I’ll be honest. This box is far superior to the Treats box I tried, because one, it was more grand. Second, it had more country information. Third, it had more interesting snacks. And four, the overall product is just more attractive. Keep in mind that the ratings are for the snacks in the box, not for the overall product itself. Universal Yums gets 5 stars from me.
But in conclusion, it was great to have a taste of Polish snacks. It was something different, and had I stayed with the other company, the next country was going to be Poland. Though the Universal Yums Box was more exciting and cheerful.
I already know what the next country will be, but I won’t tell you, so stay tuned to find out what the next country is!
Overall Rating: 3.17/5
