I have a dream of one day owning my own cookie dough shop and being extremely successful at it. Seeing that my biggest competitor would be DŌ, Cookie Dough Confections, I wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. They have gone viral for their concept, and as I don’t live in or around New York City, I couldn’t go in-store to get it. So I got it as a birthday present. What’s my verdict? Read along as I give an honest review of one of their products, the taster pack.
First Impressions: Long before the order was made, I looked at the flavors on their website and wasn’t impressed. 11/14 of their default flavors contain milk chocolate in some way, with no fruit flavors in sight. For an edible cookie dough store of its kind, they should have fruit flavors available, because some people actually like those kinds. And why Oatmeal M&M instead of Oatmeal Raisin? It seems unique, but it’s really not. Anyways, on to my takes of each flavor.
Fan Favorites
DunkaDŌo: Tastes like icing on store-bought cookies, but I quite like it. I do wonder how I’m ever going to eat it all, since the taster jar, while small, seems like a lot more. It’s definitely vanilla icing overloaded, and can be too sweet for some. Nevertheless, it’s not too bad. Pretty decent, if I dō say so myself. 3.5/5

Gimme S’more: On my first bite, I got a kick of chocolate, but then again, there is a broken up Hershey bar in the dough. The graham crackers have an effect on the taste as well. I’m not sure how I feel about this flavor of dough. There’s nothing bad about it, but it tastes like dough I have made myself & better. I’ve tried to think of positive words to describe it, but I’m not sure what to say about it to be honest. The taste is nothing special, and overall, just average cookie dough. 3/5

Brookie Dough: This is actually my favorite so far of the “fan favorites”! I really like the brownie and cookie dough flavors together. On the first bite, I was sort of questioning, but as I ate on, it just got better. The one thing is that the brownie flavor does get a little overpowering at times. Any other than that, enjoyable! I really like it! 4.5/5

The Classics
Cake Batter: This definitely tastes like real cake batter! (you’re probably thinking, “Duh. It’s called cake batter.”) The white chocolate chips and milk chocolate chips added on something for me. More like they added on to the taste and texture. This was good. I would eat it again. 4/5

Sugar Cookie: Not going to lie, this tastes like some of the other cookie dough flavors. It’s pretty plain, and doesn’t really have a lot going on. Maybe it’s like the signature cookie dough. I don’t know. But either way, my mom’s sugar cookie dough tastes better and has more of that actual sugar cookie flavor. Not bad, but pretty meh. 3/5

Signature Chocolate Chip: This is the last cookie dough flavor in the entire taster pack, but it is certainly the most famous and popular type of dough in general. If I’m frank, I think that it tastes pretty generic. It tastes like a couple of the other cookie dough flavors in the pack. It’s not outright terrible and I actually low-key like it. That said, I’ve had better, even in ice cream. I could learn from the recipe my mom makes, and have much better cookie dough than this. In other words, dough I could actually eat and internally rave about. I will say one nice thing about it: if you don’t feel like making cookie dough, this is passable. 3/5

Final Verdict: I’ll be frank. It was alright. It wasn’t horrible, but nothing out of the ordinary either, both in terms of taste and flavor options. It’s good if you don’t want to make cookie dough yourself, but if you can make some on your own, I wouldn’t recommend it at all. You can make some cookie dough just as good or better in your own home. One of the flavors (I think Sugar Cookie) had a really unpleasant aftertaste the second time I ate it. Overall, quite decent, but not worth it, unless you get the Brookie Dough or Cake Batter. Even then, you could probably make those flavors on your own too.
